Oscar de la Renta has passed away at 82 after fighting an eight-year-long battle with cancer. The fashion legend dressed many famous figures, from Sarah Jessica Parker, Zooey Deschanel, and Amy Adams to a long line of First Ladies. He also designed Amal Clooney’s wedding dress for her Venetian nuptials to George Clooney last month. He and his designs were even a favorite of Sarah Jessica Parker’s alter ego Carrie Bradshaw.
The Dominian-American designer, a two-time winner of the American Fashion Critics’ Award as well as the winner of the CFDA’s Founders Award, served as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America from 1973 to 1976 and again from 1986 to 1988.
De la Renta’s uniquely feminine silhouettes and dramatic glamor have changed the fashion world forever. He will be missed greatly.
